UNDER PAR? Some Thoughts about the Presidency of George W. Bush As the President drives his golf cart how many are being driven from their homes? While he lifts a titanium club from his bag how many missiles are being clubbed or gagged? As he frets about a lousy tee-off stroke how many millions will become broke? As he drives his ball hard across lush greens how many others starve unseen? If his ball goes too far will it cause another military spar? And when his ball sinks into the final hole what will be lost to reach that goal? Sam: D'ya think that most presidents have golf course mentalities? Tim: I wish. At least in golf there are rules that must be followed, but some presidents are like dictators who think they're above the law. Kris: And in golf the whole performance is open, but who knows what moves are made in secret by top executives? Sam: You idealize golf. Ted: No, you idealize politics! Who said that politics was a gentle sport? In the end, isn't there only one winner? Tim: With that way of thinking, in the long run everybody loses . . . . ================================================================================= from _AmeriSong: Poetry, Art, & Dialogs about Amerika_ by T Newfields SUMMARY: An pictorial poem and conversation about how some American presidents consider themselves above the law.
