Glossary of Chinese Terms

jen - Concern with the well-being of others, especially if it profits oneself.
hsigo - Described as "flying monkeys", at this point in time they generally appear as airplane pilots.
hsin - Congruity of word and deed – one of the rarest virtues in the world.
Huangdi - (Lit: Yellow Emperor). The legendary father of the Chinese nation and that is credited with so many inventions and reforms that he almost seems superhuman. He reputedly became the first head of China at age 52 and 48 years later he ascended into the sky. Other accounts place his grave in Shaanxi province, where he is honored every April 4th.
junzi - (literally "ruler's son") - A person who is brainwashed well enough to serve the state and do as their superiors wish.
shu - A sacred mirror exorting us to think of others when considering ourselves.
t'ien ming - Sometimes translated as "mandate of Heaven", it usually involves adequate military backup.
wen - (1) the cultural values of the ruling class, (2) any intellectual asset that is considered to have an appreciable market value
wu-hsing - The five agents of existence that were originally conceived of as wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. At this point in time, however, they could more accurately be specified as steel, oil, oxygen, silicon chips, and water.
