WITHIN THE HIVE: Some thoughts about swarm consciousness

Bill: 	Aren't all of us living in a digital hive?

Gus: 	Yeah – and there's an inherent a danger in that.

Bill: 	(raising his eyebrows) How so?

Gus: 	Hives are usually based on hierarchical  structures. If you destroy the central 
        node – the 'queen' in most cases – the whole colony is subsequently destroyed.

Liao: 	(putting his teacup down) Ah, it's much easier to destroy things than it is to create them.
