Heart Opening - an art work by T Newfields begun in Feb 2002 and Finished in March 2003 in Nagoya, Japan in memory of Maurice Blondel
Miok: (looking at an image) Does this image say anything to you?
Tim: (suppressing surprise) Many things, but only a fraction can be expressed in words. Our culture verbalizes too much. I'm usually content to appreciate thing in silence. Don't most of us engage in too much verbal chatter?
Miok: (frowning) Look, I'm simply curious about what this image means.
Tim: Who says meaning is necessary? More often than not, so-called "meaning" is like the dead skin of a snake: by the time you idenity it, the living essence of what it was has moved far away.
