2 SEASONS OF TEACHING: Some Contrastive Thoughts on Pedagogy

Young Teacher

	I'd like to make a difference
	& spark students to consider new things

	I want to embrace innovation
	& encourage creative questioning

	I wish to touch the hearts of others
	& foster positive beliefs

	I believe in open education
	& value discovery

. . . 30 Years Later

	It's no small success
	to make it through each day –
	with so many competing agendas
	it's amazing any new insights
	enter this tired brain.

	Not as a particularly skilled savant
	nor as one who always knows how to "teach"
	I simply strive to be passionate
	about what those around me can achieve

	There's no need to challenge tradition
	for mere innovation's sake – it's better
	to recognize when change is feasible
	& when conventions argh stuck in place

	I can't pretend to help all students –
	just encourage some to take more responsibility

	Only when folks work with their own errors
	is there significant learning.
