Board Game

The universe is a chessboard
& we are pawns in an elaborate game:
while some players advance their fortunes
others are knocked away.

Victory requires focus
& should be sought resolutely.

In life second-best isn't good enough
& if opportunities manifest
they must be seized!

Adept players move
with dispassion:
noticing what others overlook.

Those playing adroitly
enjoy success
as fools are knocked off the chessboard
or forced into unfavorable nooks.

Nadia:	(shaking her head) This is not the way I see life.
Wan-Sze:	Nor do I. However, many people regard life as a zero-sum "us vs. them" game.
Will:	(pausing) Perhaps multiple games are going on at the same time. Most of them we are completely unaware of.
