Lex:   At times I think art can express philosophy more eloquently than words.

Lis:   I notice the Chinese characters for 'state','river' and 'plum.' Any reason for that?

Linda: We could invent reasons, but I don't think the author needed any exegesis. Perhaps he believed things flowed well-enough without any human 'reasons.' Often what we call 'reasons' are essentially afterthoughts: the actual mechanics of life are invisible.

Ron:  (frowning) That sounds like a formula for fostering wimpy brains.

Lex:  Don't worry, it took three billion years to get this far and life is far from wimpy.
