Linda: It seems fitting to liken our lives to blades of grass.
Ron: It's a useful metaphor. From one perspective, we are nothing but seeds – easily sown, briefly grown, then easily reaped.
Lex: There's a democracy to this: distinctions between rich and poor, wise and foolish, just and unjust matter little in the end.
Linda: (nodding) Yeah, the sickles of time work marvelously.
Lis: (pausing while lifting a stone) This metaphor is outdated. With genetic engineering, nano-technology, and robotics, the fields around us may greatly change . . . we may be entering a post-human age.
