A CRITIQUE OF SATORI: Some thoughts about Illumination Four people are commenting on an image of an abstract, radiant rayonist orb. IMAGE: An abstract, radiant rayonist orb surrounded by other obs with varying degrees of illumination. Anya: (gazing briefly at the image) Is this some sort of euphoria or eureka? Carlos: (nonchalantly while sipping a cup of coffee) To me it seems to represent a small illumination, a miniature satori. José: (shrugging his shoulders) How should we know? Devani: (yawning). . . and besides, what does it matter? Tim: This I believe: eureka happens when we go beyond words and start to experience reality directly. Devani: (laughing) That's simply not feasible . . . I doubt that we experience anything directly - there are so many layers of filters behind each experience. Ordinarily we experience only a small spectrum of so-called "reality." On so many levels, our brains filter out information and we are deep asleep. ===================================================================================== from POEATIONS: Explorations in meta-poetry by T Newfields Summary: An image of an illuminated orb and discussion of satori.
