Will Norman: 1904-1980
Defender of a Universe

Each of your paintings
held a world
& your brushes
were engines
traversing pastel empyreans.

With jet fuel
in every tube of paint
you traveled places where
geometric shapes
danced with fauvist grace.

In your studio clouds of cotton
rivers of cappuccino
and fields of canvas mixed.

Now but a fraction
of those visions
exist.

Most are discarded
or boxed up
in attics of memory.

Will Norman?

"Never heard ah him."

Norman Rockwell?

"Ah – of course!

Through the long corridors
of art history
which skeletons
are worth remembering?"
