    Practise the sentences below -

    1. Pete and Ned went on a picnic.
    2. They picked a nice day, then bought pink thermos.
    4. After that, the went shopping for a pig's neck.
    5. Next, Pete packed his goods in a puple bag.
    6. At a park, they ate and drank til sundown.

    E. LISTENING/SPEAKING
    Part A - Read this dialog and try to guess what the missing words are,
    then listen to the dialog -


    Pete and his friend Ned chat near a bar -

    **Ned:******.Do you have any plans this Saturday?
    **Pete:*****Nothing special. What's up?
    **Ned:******.Why don't we go on a picnic?
    **Pete:*****That might be fun. Do you have anywhere in mind?
    **Ned:******.Yeah. How about Lake Biwa. Have you been there before?
    **Pete:*****I've passed by, but never really seen it. How long does it take to get there?
    **Ned:******.About three hours by train.
    **Pete:*****I see. Let's go if the weather is nice.
    **Ned:******.Good idea. I'll ring you Friday night.

    A few days lated Ned telephones Pete

    **Ned:*****.Hello, Pete?
    **Pete:****Yeah. What's up?
    **Ned:*****.I just heard the weather report for tomorrow.
    **Pete:****It's going to rain, isn't it?
    **Ned:*****.There's a strong chance.
    **Pete:****Why don't we postpone the picnic one week?
    **Ned:*****.That might be a good idea.
    **Pete:****We'll stay in touch. I'll phone next Friday.
    **Ned:*****.OK. Perhaps next week it will be sunny.
    **Pete:****I hope so.

    Part B - Now practice the dialog with a partner.

    Part C - This time change the dialog to fit your own experience.
    Feel free to depart from the text and improvise.


    F. CONTENT QUESTIONS:
    Write the answers to these questions-
    1. What did Pete want to do on Saturday?
    2. Why didn't Pete and Ned go on a picnic?
    3. When will Pete call Ned again?
    4. Is next Saturday definite or tentative?

      G. GRAMMAR FOCUS/ ROLE PLAY


      A: You promised to go for a drive with a friend, but feel sick. Cancel your appointment.
      B: Suggest a different date.

      A: You missed a train and will be two hours late for a meeting.
      B: Express concern. Suggest canceling meeting.


      H. COMMON MISTAKES
      Correct these mistakes individually, then check together-
