Starting as a seed in a vermilion galaxy
i became a green sheath in a vegetable patch.
As my tissues swelled with moisture
and hairy tendrils emerged
another part of me stretched upwards
sepals embracing the Sun.
Intoxicated with chlorophyll
around my body a leafy necklace hung.
It was effortless to blossom
and soon a host of insects sucked,
sniffed, poked, & nibbled my flesh.
After my buds fell prostrate and belly swelled
i became fallow.
Following a frigid winter,
next ground around me awakened
and as vegetable sprouts lifted their heads
i – resurrected from clods of dirt – gained new life
and found rebirth.
