< Spellbound: Reflections on Collective Enchantments
Spellbound

Many people are under the spell of televisions
or of political views

Many are enchanted by religions
or by money's allure

For some love is an tantalizing potion
To others nothing 's better than booze

Some find corporate power tantalizing
Others enjoy being epicures

Perhaps all persons
are under some sort of spell:
we're all addicts of sorts
shaping our own heavens or hells

Wan-Sze: Was there ever been a more ingenious brain-suck tool than television?

Nadia: Well, the Internet is coming close . . .

Will: Blaming our problems on such devices is a cop-out. The truth is
most people are all too eager to surrender their intellects Ð
and the entertainment industry knows this keenly.
